Description
Our Streambank Mix was developed as a solution to a common problem: eroded streambanks and bare ground. The goal is to “carpet” the stream banks and areas that experience intermittent water flow.
Seeds can be one of the most cost-effective ways to repair a streambank. This mix can be overseeded into riparian areas (creek banks, riverbanks, stream beds) that have bare spots, not-quite vertical cut banks, or gravelly patches. This is a diverse mix that includes about a 50/50 mix of native grasses and wildflowers that are well adapted to streambank areas. Species have been chosen to do well both in the edge of the water and on the dry bank. The high seeding rate takes into account that some of the seed may potentially be washed down stream. This mix is best planted in Spring but requires cold moist stratification. This can be done in the refrigerator prior to planting or by planting outside in the later part of the dormant season. Read our Cold Moist Stratification Guide.
1 bulk pound of this mix should cover approximately 60 feet of stream length when seeding both sides spread out to about 4 yards (12 feet) from water’s edge. Feel free to call us to discuss your specific seeding project. (We have taken into account that a percentage of the seed will wash downstream over time and have adjusted the rate accordingly). Lighter seeding rates can be used if successive plantings are planned for the same area in subsequent years. This product is sold by the bulk pound.
