Description

Gaura longiflora, commonly called Large Flowered Gaura but also known as Butterfly Flower or Longflower Beeblossom, is a native biennial forb (wildflower). Blooms June–October

Wildlife notes

Bees, especially bumblebees, pollinate the flowers as they drink the nectar. Other insect visitors include several types of moths, some of which use this as their larval food plant. One of these is the clouded crimson, which is white and pink like the flowers.

Large Flowered Gaura prefers full sunlight and more or less mesic conditions. It tolerates many kinds of soil, include those that contain loam, clay, gravel, or sand.

Occurs in open woods, fields, prairies, glades, streambanks, roadsides, and other disturbed sites, in dry or moist areas. This plant can be rather weedy and is often overlooked despite its being rather common.
