Help is wanted. Hamilton Native Outpost is seeking hardworking individuals to join our team producing and processing native grass and wildflower seed. Our work supports the use of native plants for wildlife habitat, grazing systems, ecosystem restoration, and natural landscaping across the region. We are located in Texas County, Missouri, near Houston & Cabool, in the Elk Creek / Solo areas.
We have a variety of positions open at this time. The following positions are available:
1. Seed Cleaner
Needed: someone with excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills who loves to work outdoors. Do you have experience with seed processing or are highly motivated to learn? If this sounds like you, read on to learn about our position in seed processing (cleaning). The position involves:
- Processing native grass and wildflower seed to remove weed seeds and other foreign material
- Assist in getting seed cleaned in timely fashion
- Identifying 200+ kinds of seed; prior experience not required but you need to be highly motivated to learn
- Operating various machinery ranging from tractors to seed cleaners
- Work outside in the cold and heat, tolerate dust and regularly lift 50-pound bags of seed and do other physical work
- Willingness to go out of town when necessary to harvest seed, trips are typically in the fall and last 2-7 days
2. Equipment Operator
Needed: someone capable of operating farm machinery. Do you like the feeling of satisfaction from a day of hard work and don’t mind a little dirt and dust? Sound like you? Read on to learn more about our position in seed production and processing. This position involves:
- Operation of various pieces of farm machinery such as tractor with implements, combine, boom sprayer, standard pickup with trailer; some training can be provided.
- A variety of work that changes with the seasons and will include seed production activities and seed harvesting, but can also include other activities based upon your skills as well as what needs to be done; this could include mechanical work, seed cleaning, etc.
- Willingness to go out of town to harvest seed. Trips are typically in the fall and last from 2-7 days.
- Strength to regularly lift 50-pound bags of seed and do other physical work.
3. Outside Labor
Needed: someone who loves to work outside rain or shine, heat or snow. Do you like to work hard and don’t mind a little dirt and dust? Sound like you? Read on to learn more about our position in seed production and processing. This position involves:
- A variety of work that changes with the seasons and will include seed harvesting, seed cleaning, and rogueing weeds from fields
- Willingness to go out of town to harvest seed. Trips are typically in the fall and last from 2-7 days
- Ability to operate machinery and drive a standard pickup with trailer
- Strength to regularly lift 50 pound bags of seed and do other physical work
- Mechanical skills are not necessary but are a plus
- Parts of the year will also be spent doing other activities; this will be based upon your skills as well as what needs to be done, but could include mechanical work, some office work, etc.
4. Bookkeeping & Sales
Needed: someone with strong organizational skills and attention to detail who enjoys a variety of tasks and working as part of a team. Do you naturally check and double-check your work for errors and enjoy working with numbers? Sound like you? Read on to learn more about our position in sales and bookkeeping.
This position involves:
- Bookkeeping tasks such as data entry, payroll, sales tax collection and maintaining organized financial records
- Working with customers as part of the sales team including answering the phone, replying to basic questions, doing price quotes and taking orders
- Helping with order fulfillment, meaning bagging up seed to match the order
- A variety of work that may change with the seasons and business needs
- Basic computer skills such as typing and using Microsoft Word are required; skills in Microsoft Excel are a plus
5. Mechanic
Needed: Someone capable of maintaining and repairing farm and light industrial equipment. Do you enjoy solving mechanical problems, working with your hands, and seeing the results of a job well done? If that sounds like you, read on to learn more about our position supporting seed production and processing operations.
This position involves:
- Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various pieces of farm and shop equipment such as tractors, implements, combines, seed cleaning equipment, trailers, and standard pickup trucks.
- Performing routine service work including oil changes, lubrication, belt and bearing replacement, hydraulic repairs, and general preventative maintenance to keep equipment running during busy seasons.
- Diagnosing mechanical issues and making timely repairs to minimize downtime during planting, harvesting, and seed processing operations. Welding skills will be necessary for this position.
- A variety of work that changes with the seasons and may include assisting with seed production, seed cleaning, facility maintenance, fabrication projects, or other operational needs based on your skills. This position will also include operating equipment, training will be provided.
- Ability to regularly lift 50-pound bags of seed and perform other physical work associated with equipment repair and shop tasks.
