Not All Thistles are Invasive

Are There Good Thistles? Native vs. Non-native Thistles

Elizabeth Steele and Steve Clubine have a conversation about the different native and invasive thistles. Steve gives you tips & tricks for control of non-natives and the benefits of natives.

1. Annual native thistle – Spineless, and the undersides of the leaves have a whitish coating. Great for pollinators.

2. Bull Thistle – Biennial, spiny and invasive thistle, non-native and are not palatable to cattle.

3. Musk Thistle – Invasive non-native thistle, Biennial and spiny, interestingly the Musk Thistle Weevil helps to control the Musk Thistle here in Missouri.
